چکیده

The "extinction theorem" is used to prove that the fields of reflector antennas determined by integration of the current on the illuminated surface of the reflector are identical to the fields determined by aperture field integration with the Kottler-Franz formulas over any surface Sa that caps the reflector. As a corollary to this equivalence theorem, the fields predicted by integration of the physical optics (PO) surface currents and the Kottler-Franz integration of the geometrical optics (GO) aperture fields on S,, agree to within the locally plane-wave approximation inherent in PO and GO. Moreover, within the region of accuracy of the fields predicted by PO current or GO aperture field integration, the far fields predicted by the Kottler-Franz aperture integration are closely approximated by the far fields obtained from aperture integration of the tangential electric or magnetic field alone. In particular, discrepancies in symmetry between the far fields of offset reflector antennas obtained from PO current and GO aperture field integrations disappear when the aperture of integration is chosen to cap (or nearly cap) the reflector.

Distorted Reflector Antennas: Radiation Pattern Sensitivity to the Surface Distortions

The high-frequency performance of the reflector antennas is mainly limited by the surface. It has been shown that distortions on different regions of the reflector surface can have different effects on the radiation performance. In other words, degradation of the radiation pattern due to the presence of surface distortions is sensitive to the location and behavior of the surface distortion prof...

Analysis of Aperture Coupled Microstrip Patch Antennas with a Superstrate Using the Space Domain Closed-Form Green`s Functions

Analysis of aperture-coupled microstrip antennas with a superstrate using space domain closed form Greens functions is presented. Integral equations are derived from applying the boundary conditions on the radiating patch, across the aperture, and on the microstrip feedline. The computation of space domain greens functions is performed using the closed-form. The solution of the integral equatio...

Far Field Radiation Pattern Calculation of the Parabolic Reflector Antenna in Terms of Line Integrals by the Modified Edge Representation

This paper presents the Physical Optics field calculation in terms of only line integrations by using the Modified Edge Representation technique (MER), the alternative way of the surface integration. Not only the diffracted fields as in the conventional method of equivalent edge currents (EEC) but also the scattering geometrical optics fields are expressed in terms of the MER line integrals. Th...
